Overall an extremely well written and factually strong article, and it gives one good pause for reflection. So upon my own reflection, may I add a few ponderings of my own?

My father used to say “prepare for the worst, at least that way there won’t be any surprises.” So Billy has precisely articulated the worst case scenarios; it’s now up to each of us fight to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

Another thought comes to mind and as my good friend and mentor Barry Nemcoff would say when everything seemed to be going to “hell”: “This too shall pass.”

We need a Barry Nemcoff right now to give us a voice of hope, because without hope it’s game over. I look forward to reading Billy’s next article.

Good luck, everyone – we are in for a very bumpy ride and may I say until our last breath to never give up, for those who wish to subjugate us will eventually fail. Take heart and remember: Veritas Omnia Vincit Semper!

From your pal, former classmate and former bandmate - great bit of writing and analysis! I still am holding out as far as declaring a funeral for democracy, still awaiting the outcome of the showdown between Trump and Justice Boasberg regarding the latter's directive related to the planes that took deportees to Venezuela. Even if Trump were to blink, he is essentially unable, I think, to give Boasberg what he wants in line with the issues of due process and habeas corpus (details about who were on the planes and whether their deportations were justified, because he probably threw them on the planes to fast that he didn't maintain records of who they were or why they were being deported. So almost certainly, without the details Boasberg demanded, we have a stalemate. How that plays out in the absence of habeas corpus and due process is up in the air. Most of what hangs in the balance democracy-wise is related to this. Add to this that despite his signature being on the deportation order, he now says he didn't sign it. Trump has absolutely no capability of attention to detail. So I'm stopping short of throwing in the towel.

The legislative branch, when predominantly Republican is just rubber stamping everything Trump wants, and even if predominantly Democrat may be a very limited check, so as I see it, they are out for now. And maybe permanently if voting is either nullified or heavily tampered with in 2026. For right now, I see it as executive vs. judiciary, as personified by Trump vs. Boasberg, who is showing a lot of backbone despite everything that's being thrown at him. Look forward to your next missive, particularly as the next moves on the Trump-Boasberg chessboard are made!
